A SOLD out rave for both children and parents left Salisbury Art Centre "full of smiles" at the weekend.

On Saturday (April 21), more than 350 people attended the Famtazia Family Rave in the city, to enjoy an afternoon of dance music, including DJ Boing, UV face painting, glitter and more.

Inspired by the 90s rave scene, the event raised around £2,000 that will be going to ENCIRCLES (previously Austin Cohen Global Foundation) to support homelessness in the city.

Gemma Abbott, mother of two and one of the event organisers, described the family rave as "a tribute to the post-rave generation and their families" and an "amazing experience".

She added: "I think a lot of people were quite nervous before [Famtazia] because in Salisbury we don't really do things like this, but everyone was really supportive and my friend and I just stood in the centre of the dance floor surrounded by families that were full of smiles. It was a dream come true and we raised money too."

After attending similar events at festivals and other cities, Gemma wanted to bring the event to Salisbury as it was "something different and uplifting", and she was "thrilled" with the response.

Several businesses and members of the community rallied together to make the party a success, including Bill's Salisbury, The Mischief Maker, Clubbercise, The Crafty Beanstalk, Night Owls Sleepover Club and The Weird & Wonderful.

The 42-year-old added: "It was such a fun way to get the whole community involved and I would love to do it again."
