A MAN from Wiltshire has organised for hundreds of bottles of beer from a local brewery to be handed out to veterans attending D-Day anniversary ceremonies in June.

The new beer, a pale ale called Pegasus, is being specially produced by Downton Brewery, in response to an initiative by Malcolm Dean.

Mr Dean, who is a member of the Downton branch of the Royal British Legion, wanted to raise money for the Legion for the benefit of D-Day veterans.

The beer is described as “an extremely flavoursome ale brewed with 100 percent Slovenian hops, Dana and Celeia, which impart distinctive floral lemon flavours and a clean taste throughout.”

Half of the initial run of 300 bottles are earmarked for veterans at the commemoration event in Normandy this summer.

The remainder are being sold locally with profits going to the Legion.

Mr Dean will be travelling to Normandy himself in June to hand out bottles to veterans.

Any veterans unable to attend are urged to get in contact with Mr Dean, and they will still receive a bottle.
