UPDATE (11.15am): Police officers expect the road to be shut for another "two to three hours"
THERE has been a serious crash on the A303 between the Countess and Stonehenge roundabouts.
It happened just before 7am and involved a lorry and a car.
South Western Ambulance Service sent two rapid response vehicles and an ambulance to the scene as well as an operations officer.
Fire crews from Salisbury Amesbury and a heavy rescue team from Basingstoke were also sent to the scene.
A police spokesperson said that the injuries sustained were "very serious".
The road is closed westbound and is expected to be closed for several hours. A diversion is in place via the A345, the Packway and via the A360. The road eastbound is open.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
