SIXTY years ago, the novel, ‘Thrush Green’, by Miss Read was published. Set in a small village in the Cotswolds, Thrush Green tells the charming tale of one significant day on the life of its villagers – the first of May, when the annual travelling fair visits the village green.

The book was adapted for the stage by Ron Perry two years ago and performed to critical acclaim by the Redlynch Players, based in Redlynch.

This year, to mark the 60th anniversary of the publication of the original book, Ron has collated events from the life of Miss Read (the pen name of Dora Saint) and along with her daughter, Jill, is delighted to bring excerpts from the play, along with a celebration of Dora Saint’s life to the stage.

Called ‘Miss Read Remembered’, Redlynch Players, along with Ron Perry and Jill Saint, will be

performing to audiences in Redlynch village hall as well as at the real Thrush Green (Wood Green near Witney, Oxfordshire) this month.

Performances take place on Tuesday, May 21 to Thursday, May 23. Tickets, at £10, from email: tickets@redlynchplayers.co.uk

Performances in Holy Trinity Church, Wood Green, Witney will be Saturday,

May 25 and Sunday, May 26, tickets, priced £10 are available from ticketsource.co.uk/missread and Witney visitor tourist information.
