A LOCAL author has written a book about his father's involvement in the Burma war campaign, and will be signing copies over the next two weeks.

Richard Isaac, from Salisbury, has written a book about his father, Arthur Harry Isaac, who fought in the Burma Campaign in 1944.

It "tells of his fight for survival, and the harsh realities of the uncharted Burma Jungle."

Mr Isaac will be signing copies of the book at Beaton Tea Rooms and Bookshop in Tisbury, this Saturday, May 18, from 10am to 5pm.

A week later, he will also be signing copies of the book at Salisbury Library, on Saturday May 25, also from 10am to 5pm.

Arthur Harry Isaac, who was one of General Orde Wingate’s Chindits, joined the Royal Air Force after the Burma campaign, and was stationed at RAF Boscombe Down from 1946 to 1959.

Richard says: "He went onto become a champion athlete in the RAF and he also competed and trained with Salisbury Athletics club and in 1952 he won the Salisbury round the houses 5 mile road race.

"In 1955 he got married in Salisbury and his first child, a daughter was born at Odstock hospital.

"I was born in Devizes, and I have written this book in memory of my father."
