FIREFIGHTERS have dealt with a fire at Harnham Sports and Social Club.

The fire, which was affecting the roof, was reported to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service at about 2.40pm today.

The roof of the building has been badly damaged.

A number of crews attended the scene including crews from Salisbury, Poole, Andover, St Mary's and Fordingbridge, attended the scene.

Police have also been at the scene.

A spokesperson for the fire service said that there were no injuries and that the fire has been extinguished.

Mark Blaxley, who is the licencee and vice chairman of the club, said the members of the club are "gutted", adding: "It is heartbreaking."

He was not on site at the time and had just ordered lunch when he received a call to say the club was on fire.

Mark said: "At the moment from what I'm seeing the main club itself is secure and not damaged. We will get that operational as soon as we can."

He hopes they can get the members club of the building back up and running as soon as possible and then focus on getting the function room up together.

Mark added: "Harnham Club apolgises for any convenience caused."

He thanked everyone who has supported him and the club today, adding: "Quite a few members have come up and supported me."

Police are carrying out enquiries.
