THE fourth and final peregrine chick has arrived at Salisbury Cathedral.
The egg hatched on the cathedral tower at about 8.30pm on Saturday, May 18
It could be seen struggling free of its shell whilst the other chicks were being fed.
The last time four chicks successfully hatched on the tower was in 2015.
The first egg hatched on May 15, followed by the second and third the following days.
The new hatchling appeared just days after the Antiques Road Show 2019 visited the cathedral, attracting about 5,000 people to The Close.
During the day presenter Fiona Bruce called in on the team in the works yard, inspiring the clerk of works, Gary Price, to suggest that we informally name the peregrine adults Fiona and Bruce – a suggestion that has been taken up.
Provided all goes well the chicks will be ringed in early June.
The cathedral have ringed 11 chicks to-date.
