TIME is running out to nominate your teaching heroes for this year’s education awards.

The Salisbury Journal Education Awards has become one of the highlights of the year across the region for all those who play a part in lifetime learning.

With KBR Aspire Defence as the primary sponsor, this awards ceremony is a chance to recognise some of the tremendous work that goes on in our schools and colleges at all levels, from those who volunteer their services right up to those who provide great leadership.

This year’s event takes place at the Stones Hotel on July 11, and the deadline for nominations is Friday, June 7.

Nominations are now closed.

Here are the awards up for grabs:

  • Leadership award
  • Secondary Teacher of the Year award
  • College Teacher of the Year award
  • Supporting Staff Member award, sponsored by ABF The Soldiers’ Charity
  • Community Involvement award, sponsored by Specsavers
  • Careers Education award, sponsored by primary sponsor KBR Aspire Defence
  • Innovation award, sponsored by Wiltshire college
  • Special Educational Needs Staff award, sponsored by Bishop Wordsworth’s School
  • Nursery/Primary Teacher of the Year award, sponsored by Radiquip Media Services
  • Business in Schools award

Representatives from schools around South Wiltshire as well as business leaders and community representatives are invited to come together on the night to recognise both the winners and nominees, as they are all congratulated for their work and expertise.

Bill Browne, publisher of the Journal, said: “Anyone involved in our schools and colleges can nominate, whether they are parent, pupil, teacher or leader.

“We just want to hear about all the good things that are going on. The candidates from previous years that have been nominated were from across the region and, once again, we are anticipating some incredible stories.

“Our thanks go to our sponsors, including principal sponsor – KBR Aspire Defence who have been with us since the launch.”

All those who nominate will have their names put into a hat and one lucky winner will receive £100 worth of Love to Shop vouchers.

Last year’s winners include Jonathan Curtis of Sarum Academy for the Leadership award, Penny Shuttleworth of St Joseph’s School who won the Secondary Teacher of the Year award, Diane Newton from Salisbury 6th Form won College Teacher of the Year, and Kevin Lawrence of Wyndham Park won the Community Involvement award.
