THE work of artist John Constable was brought to life in Fordingbridge.

His painting the Hay Wain was recreated in the River Avon as part of Fordingbridge Culture Week with the help of David Shering and his Comtois heavy horses Belle and Bresil.

David said: "It was quite humbling to recreate such an iconic painting however we realised we couldn’t accurately copy the painting with my horses and there are three in the real thing. So it was decided to hold a spot the difference competition for Culture week.

Salisbury Journal:

"When we were actually in the river with the horses we realised from some angles we could have been back in 1820 . The horses have done some odd events with me before and I knew they were okay in water, except Bresil likes to splash around and rearrange the river bed."

David son's Billy helped by playing the role of the farmhand

Prizes for the spot the difference competition were donated by the George and other local businesses.

Fordingbridge Culture Week runs until June 7 and has been organised by the Fordingbridge Events Group.
