A MAN was arrested in Salisbury after being found in possession of a large quantity of cash and drugs.

Police were alerted after a man was seen acting suspiciously on Friday at about 8pm in the Bridge Street area.

Officers from Salisbury's community policing team located a 20-year-old local man who tried to escape capture.

Once detained, he was searched and found with more than £1,000 in cash, a quantity of class B drugs and 61 bags, each containing a substance believed to be a class A drug totalling an estimated street value of more than £3,000.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply and has been released under investigation while tests are carried out on the drugs.

Police Sergeant Keith Jackson said: “This was another example of excellent proactive work generated by information given by the public. This is a reminder that dangerous drug networks are not welcome in our city and the police and community will continue to work together to ensure Salisbury is a safe city for all.”

Police are urging the public to continue reporting suspicious activity, via 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
