A MASS was held at Salisbury Cathedral for the first time in almost 500 years on Friday.
The celebration mass, held for the 50th anniversary of the ordination of Canon Michael Fitzpatrick, is only the second Mass of its kind held in the Cathedral since the Reformation.
Canon Michael is parish priest of St Osmund’s, St Gregory’s and The Holy Redeemer Catholic Churches in Salisbury.
This Mass will be held with the permission of the Bishop of Salisbury and the Dean and Chapter of Salisbury Cathedral.
Bishop Declan Lang, Bishop Emeritus Crispian Hollis and the Bishop of Salisbury joined Canon Michael for the occasion, as well as fifty-eight priests of the diocese.
Canon Michael has been a priest of the diocese since his ordination and has also served in the parishes of St Peter’s, Gloucester; St Joseph’s, Fishponds, Bristol and Our Lady of Lourdes, Kingswood, Bristol.
