COLONEL Jo Butterfill MC late of First Fusiliers was awarded an OBE for his services as Chief of Staff of Bulford based 3rd(UK) Division.

The Royal Tank Regiment received two honours, an MBE for Maj Ferman and the Regimental Sergeant Major, WO1 H Upham was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.

In 1 Royal Welsh, Corporal Williams 62 received a General Officer Commanding’s Commendation for his outstanding effort in maintaining the Rear Operations Group vehicle fleet and driving qualifications during the deployment to Estonia.

Royal tank regiment news

The RTR have been named 1 Brigade's Iron Trophy winner for 2018/19. The Iron Trophy recognises Units for promoting physical development. It is scored on events entered and the number of PT courses attended.

Dreadnaught and Badger squadrons deployed onto Salisbury Plain last week to conduct a challenging dismounted exercise. This culminated with a dawn attack, with Recce Troop marking routes for Command Troop to Assault the enemy position.

Yeomanry celebrations

Rounding off the celebration of the formation of the Yeomanry 225 years ago, members of Old Sarum based B Squadron Royal Wessex Yeomanry met up for a drink at the Bear Hotel, Devizes. There they raised a glass to the formation of the first Yeomanry Regiment, The Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry, at the very same spot on 4th June 1794 where it all began.

During the Armed Forces Day celebrations The Royal Wessex Yeomanry will exercise the freedom of the city of Salisbury ‘with drums beating, colours flying, and bayonets fixed'.

47Regiment Royal Artillery have recently returned from a Diving expedition in Cyprus where soldiers qualified as sports divers

Also in Cyprus from 26 Engineer Regiment are 38 Headquarters and Support Squadron, accompanied by Mechanised Troop from 30 Armoured Engineer Squadron. They have started works on Ex PINESTICK, a construction task supporting both military and civilian facilities in Cyprus.

In Canada, Exercise PRAIRIE TEMPEST is underway, with the Queens Royal Hussars Battlegroup (BG) (recently arrived in Tidworth from Germany) and Y Company, First Fusiliers in the final throws of their exercise phase in BATUS.

Last week the first elements of 1 FUSILIERS BG began deploying to Canada to start preparations for their time on the Prairie..
