A MAN was hit in the face after refusing to give another man a cigarette in Old Sarum.

Police say at around 11.15pm on June 8, a man in his 50s was approached by a man in The Portway who asked him for a cigarette.

When he refused, he was hit to the face - sustaining a cut to the face which required treatment at Salisbury District Hospital.

The man then ran off in the direction of the roundabout and the victim got back in his vehicle.

The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 10 inches tall, of proportionate build. He is believed to be aged around 35 to 40 and clean shaven. He was wearing a dark coloured jacket and either a hoodie underneath or a hat on his head.

PC Amanda Conn said: “The victim sustained a cut to his face and attended Salisbury District Hospital for treatment. It is not clear at this stage if the offender used a sharp item during the assault but we are continuing to investigate and would welcome any further information from the public.

“Although the area was quiet at the time, we are hopeful that someone may have seen the suspect running off from the scene or may recognise the description provided.”
