THE Post Office in Downton will be closing next month but it is hoped services can be "restored" in the area.

The Post Office is currently run out of Downton Crossroad Stores on Headland Road but a new location is being sought after the resignation of the postmaster and withdrawal of the premise for post office use.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Downton Cross Roads Post Office will be temporarily closed from Thursday 4 July at 5pm due to the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises, that we do not own, for Post Office use.

“We understand how important a post office is to a community and we would like to reassure customers that we are working hard to restore a post office in that area."

The Post Office is looking for a retailer or business interested in running the post office to come forward.

The spokesperson added: “Any retailer or small business owner interested in running the Post Office and incorporating it into their business should email ND.enquiries@postoffice.co.uk or phone 0333 345 5560, then select option 2.”

Customers can use alternative branches which include Woodfalls Post Office, The Ridge, and Woodgreen Post Office on Hale Road.
