A MURDER investigation has been launched after an alleged hit-and-run on the A303 in Amesbury. 

The incident happened on the A303 eastbound near Solstice Park on Friday at about 4.50pm.

A 63-year-old man was taken to hospital by air ambulance but died this morning.

A statement from Wiltshire Police said: "We have launched a murder investigation following a collision on the A303 on Friday afternoon (21/06/19).

"At approximately 4.50pm on Friday a car was in collision with a man on the A303 Eastbound near Solstice Park.

"The vehicle involved failed to stop.

"Sadly, the injured man (aged 63), who was taken to hospital by air ambulance, died in the early hours of this morning – our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."

A 23-year-old man from Watford has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station in Swindon.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward. 

Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay, who is leading the investigation, said: "We would like to speak anyone who may have seen this collision on Friday.

"This is a very busy road and I believe there would have been a number of drivers and road users who would have seen this incident.

"Also, if you have any dash-cam footage of this please come forward."
