THE body of man found in woodland has been formally identified as Michael Poulton who is from the Wilton area.

Police launched a public appeal early yesterday to find the 60-year-old who had last been seen on Saturday walking along the A350 towards Trowbridge at around 6.30pm.

Later in the morning, the force issued a statement confirming he had been "located", before today revealing that it was in fact his body that was found.

A spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the body of a man located in woodland in the Yarnbrook area yesterday has been formally identified as Michael Poulton.

"Our thoughts remain with Mr Poulton’s family at this time who are being supported by specially trained officers.

"At this stage, this is being treated as a sudden, non-suspicious death and a report will now be prepared for the coroner.

"As Mr Poulton had been in contact with Wiltshire Police prior to his death, this matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
