THREE people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglaries in Tidworth.

Homes and garages in the Sidbury Circular, Zouch Avenue, Daunch Close and Ashdown Terrace areas were targeted.

Silver knives and other items were stolen from a house in Ashdown Terrace but the burglars were unsuccessful in the other incidents causing damage to locks as they tried to break in.

Local officers were conducting foot patrols late last night to try and find the culprits and located three young men who were subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary.

The men aged 18, 21 and 24 currently remain in custody at Melksham Police Station.

Inspector Liz Coles who leads the South East Community Policing Team said: "Our investigation is ongoing into these cases where opportunist thieves have been prowling around properties looking for easy access to homes.

"The homes were targeted in a general area but incidents occurred at differing times of the day or night.

"We know that in some cases they have entered homes via unlocked doors and windows but were disturbed by the residents and ran off.

"We appreciate it is very warm but we want you and your belongings to be safe so please do think about your home security.

"The help of the community is essential and we are grateful for the calls we received from the public about people acting suspiciously. This information really helps us and we encourage everyone to call in on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress."
