WORK has finally begun on Salisbury Athletics Track.
As well as the track resurfacing, the works will see an improved layout for field events, ensuring compliance with current UK Athletics standards, including the provision of disability access.
There will also be the introduction of a discus cage and an electrical supply to the finish line, which will enhance timing.
John Thomson, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for leisure said: “I’m delighted that we’ve reached a stage where the improvements are ready to take place.
“When completed, this important facility will benefit the community enormously by encouraging people to keep fit and healthy.”
“I would like to personally thank South Wilts Grammar School, The City of Salisbury Athletics and Running Club and all the officers involved with this project, as we overcame a number of challenges to deliver this refurbished track.”
Michele Chilcott, Head teacher, South Wilts Grammar School said: “We anticipate the new running track will open mid-September and look forward to this refurbishment providing excellent sports facilities for the school and the community.”
