AN 105-YEAR-OLD has taken a literal trip down memory lane, joining bikers on a motorcycle ride.
Great grandmother and bike enthusiast Dorothy Noyce was dressed up in a leather jacket and gloves last week to be taken on the back of a custom motorcycle, accompanied by 30 bikers from Sarum Bikers MCC.
And biker Mark Hibbard, who goes under the nickname Bear and joined Dorothy on her trip wearing a skull mask, was "only too pleased to help out," said Claire Connor, from Braemar Lodge’s companionship team.
Claire organised the trip after seeing a photograph of Dorothy and her late husband, Albert, with a motorbike, taken 80 years ago.
Supported by staff at Colten Care’s Braemar Lodge in Salisbury, Claire described the event as "fantastic", adding: “I asked Dorothy if she’d like to go out on a motorbike again and she said ‘yes please’.
“When Dorothy, who was born and bred in Salisbury and used to work in the nearby Spitfire factory saw the bike, she said: ‘Hold my stick’ and was off like a flash. There was no holding her back.
“She had a whale of a time going up and down the road on the trike and was singing and laughing.”
Alison Bremner, home manager for Colten Care’s Braemar Lodge, added: “Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed her trip down memory lane, as did our other residents.
“This was a great example of how our companion teams look to make wishes come true. Out of the ordinary events are possible even though you may live in a care home and be an older person.”
