THE A303 has reopened after a crash involving a hay lorry and a private ambulance car near Mere.

Police were called shortly before 6.30am today (Tuesday, August 6) to the two-vehicle crash. 

The A303 was closed at the A350 junction going west and Mere junction eastbound.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "Nobody has been seriously injured, but recovery is being arranged for both vehicles and the removal of the hay bales which have gone over the road.

"Officers are working to open one lane to release some trapped traffic and will fully open the road as soon as possible once the hay and vehicles have been cleared.

"We are urging motorists to find alternative routes."

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said it was called to the incident at 6.24am which involved a lorry and a private ambulance car.

The ambulance car involved in the incident was not a South Western Ambulance Service vehicle. 

One patient with minor injuries was treated at the scene.
