A DETECTIVE sergeant who was poisoned by Novichok last year has reached the final 10 for Amplifon's Brave Britons award.

DS Nick Bailey was on the scene at former Russian spy Sergei Skripal’s home in Salisbury after he and his daughter were found unconscious in the city centre.

He was left critically ill after being poisoned, but after a lengthy absence was able to return to work.

Nick has been nominated for the Brave Britons 2019 Service To Their Country category.

The award recognises members of the public, community and members of the armed forces and emergency services who have shown remarkable courage.

He reached the selection stage out of about 50 nominations chosen by the public from around the UK.

Four finalists will be selected in each category and the winner will be announced at an awards luncheon at the Army and Navy Club, Pall Mall, London, on October 15.

Falklands war hero Simon Weston chairs the judging panel and presents the awards.
