THE community came together to remember those who gave their lives in South East Asia during the Second World War.
A Victory Over Japan commemorative service was held outside the Guildhall this morning (Thursday, August 15).
Salisbury City Council supported the Salisbury branch of the Royal British Legion to organise the VJ Day ceremony.
The mayor of Salisbury, John Walsh, said “It’s important that we remember the survivors of that conflict, who in many cases came back broken in health and spirit by the appalling behaviour of their enemies, especially to those taken prisoner."
A short ceremony was also held in the cathedral after the commemoration which took place by the Burma Star Association Memorial.
