THERE was an impressive sight in the skies above Old Sarum this afternoon.

A Hawk Jet XX154 was flown into Old Sarum Airfield by a Chinook helicopter and will join the other aircraft at the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection (BDAC).

It was previously based at MOD Boscombe Down.

BDAC, which is located at Hangar 1 South, Old Sarum Airfield, has been chosen to be entrusted to preserve the aircraft for future generations.

Squadron Leader John Sharpe, of Boscombe Down Aviation Collection, said: "To see that aeroplane come down the centre line here at Old Sarum was fantastic. Big smile on my face."

It was a fitting day for the aircraft to arrive as today marks the 45th Anniversary of the first flight of the Hawk XX154.

This event has been made possible with the cooperation and help from QinetiQ, RAF Odiham and the Royal Navy Engineers from RAF Brize Norton - Joint Air Delivery Test and Evaluation Unit.
