EVER wondered what it’s like behind the scenes at Poole Hospital? Or what those complicated machines and pieces of equipment actually do?

Now's your chance to find out - because the hospital is holding its annual open day September 14.

The public will have a chance to see parts of the hospital not normally on show, including laboratories, radiology, pharmacy, the physiotherapy gymnasium, operating theatres and treatment rooms.

Visitors will also be able to get health advice and basic health checks, as well as a chance to meet the teams behind a wide range of services that support urgent and planned care at Poole Hospital.

Deputy chief operating officer Jacqueline Coles said: "The hospital’s future role is much in focus at the moment, and visitors will also be able to see how the hospital will look in the coming years and discover more about the wide range of services that will be offered, including all-new planned surgical procedures, and how the urgent care centre will care for many of the conditions the existing emergency department treats now.

"Our open days are always popular events and give the public a real insight into how a busy general hospital operates."

With a BBQ and cream teas on offer – with proceeds from sales going to Poole Hospital Charity – as well as face painting, the event is geared up for family fun with an educational theme and the opportunity to learn about careers in healthcare.

The open day runs from 10am-2pm throughout the hospital. For the latest information on what’s happening and when, visit www.poole.nhs.uk or follow @poole_hospital on Twitter.
