MUSIC lovers are in for a treat as Woodfalls Band presents its Proms in the Park.

The free concert takes place on the fields at Redlynch Sports and Social Club tomorrow (Sunday, September 1).

The band will be conducted by its musical director Dr Robert Childs, famous in brass band circles for being the former conductor of The Cory Band and for playing principal euphonium for the Black Dyke Band.

Audience members are invited to bring along a picnic, chairs and rugs and enjoy a concert featuring favourite fare from the traditional Last Night of the Proms.

Fans of the band were recently asked to send in their requests for music to be performed at the Prom so the early-evening event will also feature such classic as Bohemian Rhapsody, I Will Follow Him, Sing, Sing, Sing, 633 Squadron and Grandfather’s Clock.

The chairman of Woodfalls Band Remus Sawyerr said: “We have put on this concert to say thank you to our local community who have once again generously supported our 145-year-old band throughout the year.

“We are performing a varied mixture of music, a lot of it chosen by our own fans and everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy what will be a great event.”

A raffle will be run during the evening with proceeds helping the band to meet their commitments as they travel across the UK to perform.

The band’s latest recording United will also be on sale and a fully licensed bar will be open.

The concert, which starts at 5pm, will be held indoors if wet.
