HANDMADE Twiddlemuffs have been delivered to care home residents living with dementia.

Members of Soroptimist International (SI) of Salisbury, and their friends and family, have been busy creating the gifts, which were presented to the Order of St John team at Bemerton Lodge last Tuesday.

Twiddlemuffs are knitted, crocheted and sewn items with tactile attachments, that people living with dementia find soothing and comforting.

The 24 items were handed over by Eleanor Evans, Salisbury Soroptimist programme action chairman, to the team at Bemerton Lodge, including area manager Linda Knifton, manager Luci Hammett and volunteer and events manager Karen Johnson.

Half of the Twiddlemuffs have been left at Bemerton Lodge and the other load has been taken to Bartlett House in Ludgershall, and more gifts are ready and waiting to be handed over by the end of September.

After the presentation Karen said: “A very big thank you for bringing along the Twiddlemuffs and blanket that [the] Soroptimist group have been making.

"They are all delightful and we are so grateful to [SI Salisbury] for choosing our organisation to receive the benefit of this amazing project."
