THE awards that celebrate the town’s unsung heroes have seen an increase in entries this year.

Following the closure of the nomination period for 2019, the Pride of Andover Awards committee has announced a significant rise in nominations received, compared to recent years.

The Awards, which are in its 13th year, received close to 40 nominations in total, making 2019 one of its most successful years to date.

This year, nominations were sought for a variety of categories, all sponsored by generous local businesses passionate about the town’s thriving community.

Christine Mellor of David Mellor Family Jewellers, main sponsors of the awards, commented: “We’re delighted to have received so many nominations this year, and would like to extend our best wishes to everyone who has been put forward for an award.

“Simply to have been nominated – to have been recognised for your hard work; volunteering your time, helping someone in need, or raising money for a cause you feel passionately about – is a great achievement and something each and every one of our nominees should be proud of.

“Our thanks goes out to everyone who took the time to nominate someone for an award.”

The category sponsors will now meet with the Pride of Andover Awards committee to commence judging, which will take place during a closed event on September 7.
