ACTION is being taken to move a group of travellers which have set up on a play park in Andover.

Several caravans and vehicles moved onto the field in Kiel Drive, Saxon Fields at around 10.30pm on Tuesday.

They parked up on the left-hand side of the green space blocking the children’s playground, after they forced their way through the wooden barriers which blocked the site.

Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) issued a notice for the group to move on Wednesday, but this was ignored, and the travellers remain their today (Friday).

Today the council has been to court in a bid to get a warrant to repossess the land, forcing the travellers to move.

TVBC leader Councillor Phil North said: “Despite being issued with notice on Wednesday, the travellers have failed to leave the site. Therefore, officers have been in court this morning and will return early next week to try to secure repossession of the land.

“I understand the frustrations of nearby residents and we are working as hard and as quickly as possible to ensure they leave the site.”

The encampment came just days after groups of travellers were moved on from Walworth Business Park and Anton Trading Estate, leaving a trail of rubbish behind.
