AN ATTEMPTED knife-point robbery did not take place in Salisbury in the summer, Wiltshire Police has today announced.

A 49-year-old man, who alleged he had been threatened by a man with a knife who demanded he hand over his wallet and phone, has now been interviewed under caution for wasting police time.

Officers investigating the incident, which was reported to take place on June 9 in Mill Stream Approach, have now established it did not take place, and the man has been given an adult caution.

Detective Constable Rachel Fox said: “Through extensive CCTV enquiries I was able to establish that this incident did not take place and the man who reported it initially has been interviewed and admitted making a false report of robbery.

"I hope the public feel reassured that we will always take reports of this nature seriously and will carry out extensive enquiries to determine exactly what has happened.”
