AN RAC mechanic who sustained serious injuries after a crash on the A303 near Winterbourne Stoke yesterday (Friday, October 4) is in a stable condition, police have confirmed.
The incident took place at around 3.40pm on the eastbound carriageway of the A303 at Yarnbury Castle.
A broken down vehicle was in the process of being recovered by the RAC when the collision occured.
A statement from Wiltshire Police said: "A black Mercedes E220 collided with the rear of a black Peugeot 307 which was stationary, having broken down in lane one of the two lane carriageway.
"The vehicle was in the process of being recovered by the RAC.
"As a result of that collision, the RAC mechanic suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.
"He was taken to Salisbury District Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
"The driver of the Mercedes and the driver of the broken down Peugeot were not injured."
The eastbound carriageway was closed for more than six hours while the scene was investigated and the vehicles were recovered. It was reopened at 10pm.
Fire and ambulance crews, as well as an air ambulance, also attended the scene.
