COUNCILLORS and a Salisbury resident continued to clash over the state of city bus shelters at an Area Board meeting.
Chairman of the meeting, Councillor Sven Hocking said that there was little that could be done to rectify the problem of rain coming through the at the top of the shelters.
Resident David Brown, who has previously described the shelters as “absolute rubbish” and “not fit for purpose”, shouted “you are wrong”, at the councillors from the public area.
The Board had previously been advised that they could not be modified, as there was no additional funds available, and that they would remain in place until more funding.
At a previous area board meeting earlier this year, Mr Brown said the new shelters were “not physically the same” and there was a gap which meant people were getting wet. He said: “The best thing really is to bring your umbrella and sit under the bus shelter with your umbrella up to guard against getting wet. You [the Area Board] need to do something please.
“You have wasted a lot of money.”
Cllr Hocking is to liaise with Highways to see if works could be undertaken to improve the design of the shelters.
