STUDIO Theatre in Salisbury is starting its new season with a cracking comedy from the pen of Ian Hislop and his playwright partner Nick Newman.

A Bunch of Amateurs is a lesson on how an amateur dramatic society should never conduct themselves.

Needing to boost their funds, they organise a fading Hollywood actor to take the lead in their production of King Lear in Stratford in Suffolk but he is vain enough to believe he is to be the star in Stratford-upon-Avon.

His horror on finding this is far from the case and the standard he expects results in embarrassment, angst and comic moments.

Directed by Anthony von Roretz, it runs from tomorrow (October 14) to 19 at 7.30pm. Studio Theatre is located in Ashley Road.

The performances are being dedicated to Sandra Joyce Desfontaine who, after quite some years as a popular member of Studio Theatre, passed away.

Salisbury Journal:

The theatre said: “Sandra will be sadly missed by Studio Theatre and our thoughts are with her family.”
