POLICE are investigating whether a "fail to stop" incident is linked to a car fire in Alderholt at the weekend.

Dorset Police received a report on Saturday (October 26) from the fire service of a vehicle fire in the area of Daggons Road at around 8.45am.

The vehicle was destroyed by the fire and was being treated as suspicious by the fire service.

When officers attended, a man made off from another vehicle parked nearby.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Searches were carried out in the area but the man was not located. It was also reported that fail-to-stop collision had occurred in Ringwood Road during the early hours of Saturday (October 26).

"It was reported that another vehicle had collided with a parked van and had failed to stop at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing into these incidents and whether there is any link between the reported collision and the burnt out vehicle.

A fire crew from Fordingbridge was called to the car fire in Daggons Road and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
