MORE than £1,000 was raised at this year's Salisbury Carnival.

The event, which celebrated its 10th year, took place on Friday, October 25.

Despite the wet weather crowds came out to support the event, lining the streets as the illuminated procession weaved its way through the city centre.

The carnival, which is organised by Salisbury City Council, showcased more than 30 entries from the Wessex Carnival Circuit, steam entries and community groups and businesses.

The £1,157.53 raised from the carnival and a further £97.20 from the Charter Fair organ will go to South Wilts Mencap, the Mayor's chosen charity for the year

The Mayor of Salisbury, John Walsh said: “I am delighted with the amount raised for South Wilts Mencap. Thank you to everyone who braved the rain, donated and either took part or watched the procession. It was a fantastic evening and I look forward to next year.”
