CHRISTMAS is fast approaching, which can only mean plans for the festive season have started in Salisbury.

The ice rink and Christmas Fayre will be returning to the city on November 30, transforming Guildhall Square into a winter wonderland.

Once again the rink will be weather-proof in a marquee, and will sit amongst German-style chalets offering seasonal treats including food, drink and hand-made gifts.

With traders spread across the Market Place, there will also be live music to keep shoppers entertained.

The fayre will be in Salisbury until Christmas Eve, December 24, meanwhile the rink will be standing until January 5.

Hiding behind the ice rink will be the magical Santa's Grotto, based in the Crown Court inside the Guildhall.

Inside the wintery cave the famous Father Christmas will be telling jovial tales to families and friends, and photo and gift opportunities are available.

The Yuletide calendar will begin on November 21 with the city's Christmas Lights Switch On, featuring live music, fireworks and stalls, as well as celebrity guest Father Christmas.

And this year Salisbury City Council is looking for someone to help Mayor of Salisbury John Walsh and Santa turn on the lights in the Market Place.
