A CROWDFUNDING campaign has been started to get broken floodlights fixed at the skatepark in Fordingbridge.

The community has already rallied together to raise more than £600.

The fundraising appeal was started by Fordingbridge mum Jo Windsor on Friday, whose son Simon is a keen skateboarder.

She said: “My son kept saying the floodlights weren’t working at the Fordingbridge skatepark so he couldn’t go because he works at the weekend and he can’t go after work and school because it is dark.”

Jo said her son had tried to get the problem with the floodlights addressed but the problem had still not been resolved so she decided to help by setting up the online fundraising page.

It is not yet known how much needs to be raised. Fordingbridge Town Council has asked for a quote to see how much it would cost to have the floodlights fixed or replaced.

The campaign received support from the community, including a number of businesses in the town. Simon and his friends have also donated.

“It would mean so much [to Simon and his friends who use the skatepark to get the lights repaired or replaced],” said Jo. “It seems such a shame that it is sat there after dark, empty.”

The skatepark was officially opened by Fordingbridge Town Council on June 1. The total cost of the project was about £130,000.

Prior to the new skatepark being installed the floodlights had been disconnected but after the new one had been built they were vandalised.

Jo hopes to get local skateboarders involved in fundraising efforts and is also looking at holding a skate jam.

To those who have supported the appeal so far, Jo said: “Thank you so much, I know money is short at the moment.

“If 200 people donated a £1 each that would be £200. It’s just the smallest amount makes a difference.”
