A 55-YEAR-OLD woman has died after being involved in a collision with a car while crossing the road.

Police were called to a pedestrian crossing, close to the Esso garage on the A338 at 2.36pm today (Tuesday, November 12).

A statement from Wiltshire Police said: "A blue Volkskwagen Sharan had collided with two pedestrians who had been crossing the road.

"One of them, a 55-year-old woman from Ludgershall, sadly died at the scene.

"Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"The second pedestrian, a woman in her 20s, was taken to Salisbury District Hospital with minor injuries.

"The female driver of the car remained at the scene and has been assisting us with our enquiries. At this stage no arrests have been made."

The road was closed while investigations were carried but has now reopened.

PC Pete Williamson, from Wiltshire Police’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We have already spoken to a number of witnesses, but we are appealing for anyone else with information who has not yet come forward to please call us.

“We are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who has dash cam footage or who saw either the collision itself, or the Volkswagen Sharan shortly beforehand.

“If you can help in any way then please make contact with police.”

Anyone with information should call PC Williamson on 101, quoting log 162 of today (12/11). Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
