A MURDER investigation has been launched after a 20-year-old man was stabbed to death in Bournemouth.

Detectives have arrested an 18-year-old local man on suspicion of murder following an incident in St Swithun's Road at 10.10pm on Saturday night.

Police were alerted by the ambulance service and the victim, a Bournemouth man, was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

His next of kin have been informed of his death.

On Sunday morning a forensics tent is in place in St Swithun's Road, just outside Bournemouth Pizza Co.

Several roads were cordoned off including parts of Southcote Road, St Swithun's Road and Frances Road.

A property at the junction of Knyveton Road and Annerley Road was also taped off in connection with the inquiry.

A full investigation is now underway led by detectives from Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT).

The arrested man is currently helping police officers with their enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Dixey, of the MCIT, said: “We are making extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

“I am appealing for anyone who has witnessed the alleged assault and has not yet spoken to police to please come forward.”

Officers carried out house-to-house visits and making CCTV enquiries.
