RESIDENTS of Salisbury enjoyed a night of dance, food and fireworks at this year’s Diwali celebrations.

To mark the festival of lights the Indian Community of Salisbury (ICS) treated guests to a three-course dinner, followed by Bhangra dance, Bollywood dance, an interactive workshop and a raffle, held at Sarum Academy on Saturday, November 9.

The origin of Diwali was also introduced to guests, as more than 20 children performed the mythological play Ram Leela.

Around 300 people joined the festivities, including Mayor and Mayoress of Salisbury, John and Carrie Walsh and Major David Barringer MBE with his family.

Following the event Dr Radha Ari, chairperson of ICS, said: “The Diwali 2019 Dhamaka in Salisbury was another welcoming event by the community, showing integrity and unity of the society within Salisbury and beyond.”
