A MAN who died in a crash in Shrewton has been named as soldier Corporal Ifereimi Vasu.

The crash on on the B390 Chitterne Road happened on November 23 and involved two vehicles - a Volkswagen Transporter van and a Hyundai i40 .

Two fire and rescue crews from Salisbury and Warminster were called out to the incident at 9.29pm.

A spokesperson for the army said: "We can confirm that Corporal Vasu has sadly died in a road traffic accident near Shrewton on Saturday 23 November. Next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with family and friends at this time.

"Wiltshire Police are investigating and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further."

Corporal Vasu served in 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment.

A post on the The Yorkshire Regiment's Facebook page said: "It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the death of Cpl Vasu, #1YORKS. Professional, straight-talking and hard-working, he was the very epitome of a Yorkshire Regiment soldier.

"He will be remembered for his generosity and fearless loyalty to his family and friends. Kind, caring and compassionate, he was a true gentleman. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, our Fijian community and his friends. You are all in our hearts at this most difficult and testing time. 'Fortune Favours the Brave'."
