THE Princess Royal has cancelled her visit to Amesbury for the official opening of King’s Gate Primary School today due to the weather.

HRH was due to tour the new facilities and meet school children before cutting a celebratory cake and unveiling a plaque officially opening the school.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: "Due to inclement weather, The Princess Royal could no longer travel by helicopter to an engagement in Amesbury today, Thursday 5th December.

"Other travel options were not possible given the distances involved in meeting Her Royal Highness’ programme requirements."

Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire William Wyldbore-Smith Vice was on hand to do the honours of opening the school and unveiling a special plaque to mark the occasion.
