A POLICE dog helped capture a suspected drink driver who fled after a crash in Bulford.
Officers were called to the road outside the Rose and Crown pub in Bulford at around 8.50pm last night (Wednesday, December 11) after reports of a white Ford Fiesta colliding with a Volkswagen Tiguan and failing to stop at the scene.
The Ford Fiesta was described as having substantial damage and had made off in the direction of Salisbury Road.
Police say officers then received reports of a man acting suspiciously in Tidworth.
PC Sam Dutton and her police dog Chiko attended the scene and located a man, who attempted to run away from officers but was stopped in his tracks when Chiko was deployed.
The 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of a crash and remains in custody at Melksham.
The driver of the Volkswagen Tiguan which had been hit – a woman in her 30s – sustained an injury to her arm and was taken to Salisbury District Hospital.
Dog section manager Ian Partington said: “This type of incident is exactly what our police dogs are trained to deal with – and this was a great result thanks to Chiko and his handler.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision should call Wiltshire Police on 101 and quote crime reference number 54190122411.
