A BOURNEMOUTH woman was arrested after more than £400 worth of perfumes and gift sets were stolen in Salisbury.

Officers carrying out covert patrols as part of Operation Hamper on Tuesday spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area and saw one of the occupants enter the Boots store in Silver Street and select the fragrances and gift sets.

She then left the store without making any attempt to pay for the goods.

She was interviewed and reported for summons at Bourne Hill. She was also further arrested for being wanted on warrant from Dorset.

Inspector Pete Sparrow said: “Operation Hamper has seen an improved intelligence picture allowing our resources to focus on persistent criminals who come to Salisbury to steal.

“We will continue to resource both overt and covert officers alongside our partners in ShopWatch to deny space for thieves, deter those who wish to travel to Salisbury to commit crime and detect offences when criminals do not listen to the warnings.

“I look forward to monitoring this case through the courts.”

Operation Hamper is a crackdown on crime in the city centre by police this Christmas.
