UPDATE: A36 reopens

UPDATE 7.15PM: Road still closed. Planned drainage works on route set to start at 8pm and run until 6am. Road unlikely to reopen before planned closure.

----------------------------

A NINE-MILE stretch of the A36 has been shut in both directions after a tree fell on the road.

The 'temporary' closure at the road's section between Brickworth and the Ower roundabout was announced by Highways England earlier this afternoon, but remains in place while contractors deal with the tree's removal.

A diversion route has been put in place eastbound via the A27 and A3090 and westbound via the A3090 and A27.

As a result, traffic is building around the area.
