A SINGER-SONGWRITER and flautist from Salisbury has released her debut EP — bringing the worlds of classical and indie music together.

Bethany Eve’s EP Silver is now available after being released on Friday, December 6.

The 21-year-old said: “I was quite nervous prior to release — even though I was proud of the tracks, this was actually the first time people heard my original songs.

“Now that the EP is out I feel really happy to have had the opportunity to record and release my music, and am very pleased with the reaction it has received so far.”

“When creating my EP I wanted to incorporate classical sound elements into an indie-pop song setting,” added Bethany. “My songs are driven by melody, and I aim to use the different colours of flute, voice and piano in order to create a dream-like atmosphere.”

Speaking about the inspiration behind it, she said: “The title track Silver is based on the idea of superficial connections with others, especially in the present day with social media. The whole EP carries this kind of theme forward but the tone becomes less sombre and more hopeful as the EP progresses.”

Bethany says her biggest musical inspirations are Gabrielle Aplin, Aurora and Regina Spektor, as well as songwriter Passenger.

The former St Edmund’s and South Wilts Grammar School pupil started her interest in music from a young age. She started playing the flute at group lessons at St Mark’s Junior School and later began learning the piano before taking music at GCSE and A-Level.

“I have always loved listening to folk, pop and indie music. Although my parents aren’t musical they are big fans of a lot of musical genres, particularly folk music, so this definitely influenced my taste,” she added. “I graduated this summer with a music degree from Royal Holloway, University of London, and the three years I spent there allowed me to advance my knowledge and skills greatly.”

Bethany says she is working on more material, she said: “I am currently signed to a record label called Chalkstream productions, who have been really great at bringing my ideas to life. I have a lot of tracks lined up to release over this year and beyond.”
