A 90-YEAR-OLD man has died after a crash on Wilton Road on Saturday.

Police were called by the ambulance service to a report that a Volkswagen Golf - which was being driven by an off-duty police officer - had collided with a pedestrian at around 5pm.

The man, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have been informed and are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.

Nobody else was injured in the collision.

A road closure was put in place at St Paul’s roundabout while the incident was dealt with - this was lifted at around 10.55pm.

No arrests have been made at this time.

A statement from the police said: "We can confirm the driver is a Wiltshire Police officer who was off duty at the time. As a result, the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

"Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam footage of the incident, should call 101 and quote log number 284 of Saturday December 21."

South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 16:56 to reports of a road traffic collision.

"We attended with critical care teams, an ambulance, an air ambulance, 2 rapid response vehicles and an operations officer."
