KICKING off the new year in Salisbury was the annual Harvey Warren Trust wheelbarrow race.

Participants dressed for the occasion in colourful costumes, including superheroes, pirates and a jester.

It took place at the Hampton Park Pavilion, Bishopdown Farm.

Organiser Chris Warren said: "We had fantastic attendance."

"It went fabulously and the weather was reasonably kind," added Chris.

Twelve teams took part in the race and Chris says there were so many people keen to take part that people had to swap over half way through so everyone could have a go.

There were prizes for the best dressed team and wheelbarrow, most sponsorship raised and the fastest team.

Chris thanked everyone who has supported the race event including participants and businesses who donated raffle prizes. He said: "People really dug deep."

The event has been running for six years and Chris says it has been "getting bigger", adding: "It is so nice to hear that people definitely coming back next year. It is a really nice way to start the new year."

The money raised by the trust from the race event is still be calculated. It will be donated to The Stars Appeal and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The Harvey Warren Trust was set up by Chris and Claire Warren in memory of their baby son Harvey. It aims to raise funds for charities associated with babies and children and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
