POLICE were called to an illegal rave on Salisbury Plain at the weekend.

Wiltshire Police, as well as officers from the Ministry of Defence, tested drivers as they left the event, which took place near Erlestoke overnight on Saturday.

Throughout the day more than 50 vehicles were stopped and numerous vehicles and people searched.

Arrests were then made for possession of cannabis and driving whilst over the prescribed limit of cocaine.

Two vehicles were also seized for no insurance and no tax.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "Following the report of an illegal music event overnight near Erlestoke, officers and MoD police completed a joint operation dealing with any offences as suspects left the site.

"One male was arrested following a search when drugs were located, a driver was arrested following a positive drug wipe test.

"Drivers were also breath tested leaving the site."

A statement from the force added: "This was great teamwork by officers and hopefully will go to show that we will not tolerate this behaviour in our area. Lots of people that choose to attend this event were heavily intoxicated and under the influence of illegal drugs.

"We wish to serve this as a strong warning to people organising and attending these events that we will clamp down on this and where possible arrests WILL be made."
