A BUS driver was racially abused on his bus in Salisbury.

Police say it happened at around 9pm on November 16, on the Salisbury Reds service travelling from Fisherton Street towards Bemerton Heath.

A male passenger walked from the back of the bus to the front and started to verbally abuse the male driver.

The driver asked the passenger to sit down as he was being distracted, but when the male refused the driver pulled over at Pinewood Way and asked him to get off which he did; he then hit and kicked the side of the vehicle once he had stepped off.

Police say it is believed the bus was on the R1 service.

PC Louise Poole said: "We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this unprovoked verbal assault. The bus was carrying other passengers so those on the bus would have seen or heard this. If that was you, please come forward.

"If you can help identify the male or have any information about this, please contact us on 101 quoting crime reference number 54190114661. Alternatively, you can report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
