SALISBURY is to host its first March for Veterans walk.

The Blind Veterans UK event takes place on Sunday, March 15, and everyone is welcome to take part.

The 10-mile walk will be raising funds for the national charity that supports vision-impaired ex-servicemen and women.

Walkers will be able to meet up at The Rifles (Berkshire & Wiltshire) Museum in The Close before setting off at 10am.

A "brew up " is on offer for walkers and their supporters at The Rifleman’s Table café situated adjacent to the museum.

Hayley Warmington, the senior manager, community and event fundraising (South), said: “We are so pleased to have the support of local organisations here in Salisbury. The museum staff have been so welcoming, allowing us to use their premises for the start and finish point. It is this community spirit that means so much and ensures that we can continue to provide support for our veterans for years to come.”

Blind Veterans UK helps vision-impaired ex-service personnel rebuild their lives after sight loss.

Since 1915, the charity says it has provided rehabilitation, training, practical advice and emotional support to tens of thousands of blind veterans.

It says it is currently supporting more blind veterans than ever before in the charity’s history.

Blind Veterans UK's helps 26 veterans from Salisbury who are being given the support they need to regain their independence. This support can be through IT equipment and training, enabling a person to read, as well as help with day-to-day activities.

The charity says joining the March for Veterans walk means that every registration fee paid and every pound of sponsorship goes towards helping veterans.

Early bird registration finishes on January 31.

There are also discounts for groups of ten.
